A brilliant piece of writing, difficult to understand and full of symbolism. The language is beautiful and the book is exciting to read even though it's talking about a very mundane affair of some women meeting occasionally for a tete a tet.
This is a slim volume. Virginia Woolf doesn't write stories in the usual sense, with a well-defined plot or a conclusive ending. These stories are more like sketches, concise but incisive, and they leave a powerful impact.

As usual, Virginia Woolf excels in her prose. Every sentence is crafted beautifully, rich in words and richer in meaning. Reading her stories is both a provocative experience and a pleasant pastime.
This volume of short stories is a good re-introduction to an author most of us probably haven't seen since High School. The stories are engaging and thought-provoking, and the length is manageable even to someone out of practice with the stream of conciousness style. I carried this book to read between classes one semester and enjoyed the challenge of reading something better than standard leisure fare. This book made me want to see more Virginia Woolf. Well recommended.
I felt like I was listening to the random thoughts of someone's dreams. Weird!!!! Don't know how I kept reading ... what I didn't know at all what I was reading?!
The whole work of Virginia Woolf is profound . Through the lines is possible to discover more about V.W .Presently I am re-reading her works and again I found it EXCELLENT. All her writing gives the reader more information to understand better her complexity.
I appreciate the complexities that I find in the works of Virginia Woolf. Although difficult to understand the first time around sometimes, her words read like poetry. The collection of short stories here devote much attention to the smallest details, infusing them with a deeper meaning.
After reading several short stories, beyond this collection, I am still on the fence with Woolf. Her meanderings at times seem pointless, like she doesn’t know her mind, and the stream of consciousness doesn’t work well with me. Of this collection, “The Mark on the Wall” was the better, about a person having a crisis while gazing at a spot on the wall.
